W I B C  2011

Western International Band Clinic

Western International Band Clinic is now in its 33nd year!  WIBC features four-160-member high school honor bands who are offered the opportunity of learning under the expertise of six world-renowned guest conductors and a soloist.  This event is held in Seattle, Washington each November, just prior to Thanksgiving.

The deadline to submit this years WIBC audition(s) is Thursday, October 6th.  Check out the sidebar links.   These give students and parents information on almost every aspect of the Band Clinic.

Clicking on the registration link will allow you to register directly on Bandworld's WIBC site. Click on the audition music link to obtain needed information for downloading your auditions.

After you receive confirmation from WIBC that you have qualified, please review the information that follows on this page and the WIBC FAQs link on the sidebar. These will answer many questions regarding payment of fees and the procedure for securing lodging for your student's stay. Parents will receive a ticket for entry into the Monday concerts with their students music packet. Please remember your tickets, otherwise you will have to pay for addmission. Should you be unable to attend, please consider donating your ticket to another family that could use it! Or if you are needing an extra ticket, please let us know at the Friends email: friendsofchsband@gmail.com. WIBC distributes music to students soon after they have qualified for one of the four honor bands.

Accommodation specials are listed on the ticket in the box "Parent Specials". You must mention WIBC or Western International Band Clinic to get the discounted price.  Rooms are limited, so reserve early! There are also nearby hotel/motels which may offer preferred rates.
Students will need to arrange their own food/drinks for the trip.  Meals are available at the hotel, but are spendy!  NO MEALS ARE PROVIDED ON THIS TRIP.  Please send a debit/credit card or plenty of cash with your student.  On the Friday trip to Seattle, the bus will stop for lunch along the way. Dinner is usually a group decision.
In prior years, we have suggested one cooler for each hotel room of four students, with basic items such as milk, cereal, bread, PBJ, etc. Often students combine and share the food each has brought for the trip. Breakfast at the hotel starts at $10-15 and the wait is long at the coffee shop. Monday morning before the final concerts, the coffee shop has been known to run out of food!

If you wish to transport your student home rather than taking the bus on the return trip, please obtain prior approval from Mrs. Stevens.

  1. We would like to have students wear the outfits normally worn for school concerts for the concerts on Monday. Jeans, tennis shoes, casuals, etc. are not to be part of concert wear.
  2. For rehearsals and for wear around the hotel, good school clothes are appropriate.

Honor Band students planning to stay in the hotel, must make room arrangements through WIBC (unless staying in a room with parents). You will need to make a payment to cover room costs of $40.00 per band member per night for the hotel (quad housing only). WIBC uses six head resident monitors from Southern Oregon University (on duty 24 hours a day) as chaparones. All housing payments must be done online through the student account.

CONFLICTS
Please do not ask to be excused from any rehearsal for ANY reason and, of course, we expect you to play in the concert. We have very little time to prepare lots of music, so you are needed at each and every practice; come with your music prepared. We also cannot move students from one band to another for any reason.
CANCELATION NOTICE: If you find that conflicts with other activities will prevent your attendance at one or more honor band rehearsals, please IMMEDIATELY e-mail Scott McKee (scottmckee@bandworld.org) or call (541) 778-4880 to cancel so that we can extend an invitation to another student not previously selected. Please do this immediately - after October 29 it is difficult to make any substitutions.

No Refunds After November 8!
